Special Issue: Preparing Teachers to Serve in the Global Landscape
Abstract submissions deadline: January 15, 2020
Supporting current and future educators to prepare PK-12 children to live, work, and interact in an interconnected, globalized world is a responsibility of teacher education programs around the world (Longview Foundation, 2008; OECD & Asia Society, 2018; OECD, 2019; Yemini, Tibbitts, & Goren, 2019; Zhao, 2010). That is, all teachers need to be fully prepared to embrace internationally grounded topics and approaches in order to create equitable and inclusive learning environments that leverage PK-12 learners’ cultural, linguistic, knowledge, and social capitals. The pedagogy of global educators is multi-faceted and transcends boundaries so that future teachers are prepared to address global contexts and collaborate internationally to teach critical global issues. Rather than an additional or separate component of teacher education curricula, we view global education as an innovation of existing practices infused with pedagogies that support all students.
Journal of Research in Childhood Education
The Journal of Research in Childhood Education, a publication of the Association for Childhood Education International, features articles that advance knowledge and theory of the education of children, infancy through early adolescence.
We invite manuscripts that address global learning pedagogies for teacher preparation, integration of global competencies into teacher education curricula, examinations of local-global teacher education practices, and/or the translation of pedagogy from teacher preparation to the K-12 classroom. We are particularly interested in articles that detail research methodology and/or include international voices.
Interested researchers need to first submit an extended abstract (1 page, single-spaced) that clearly explains how your article addresses the special issue topic, the research methodology utilized, the findings, and implications for research, policy, and practice. Please email your abstract to the guest editors by January 15, 2020 and we will invite manuscript submissions by February 15, 2020. The issue is expected to be published in Winter 2021.
