About the Role

We are looking for a new Editor-in-Chief who has a background in medical information services, as well as passion to drive the journal forward in an exciting period of change. It is a significant role, with a high profile; but one that is achievable while maintaining a busy academic/professional work schedule.

The successful candidate will be responsible for editorial oversight and decision-making on submissions. They will have authority to accept articles following successful peer review and will ensure that reviewers and authors adhere to the Journal’s Code of Publishing Ethics. The journal publishes 40-50 articles/columns over four issues per year and is transitioning to continuous online publication of accepted submissions. The journal operates a double-anonymous peer review process.

Taylor & Francis will provide an honorarium to contribute towards editorship-related expenses. T&F will also support the Editor-in-Chief at editorial advisory board meetings and will supply annual reports reflecting on the performance of the Journal.

There will be an agreed handover period with the outgoing Editor-in-Chief to ensure seamless transition. Becoming the editor of a journal is a rewarding and fulfilling experience where you will further develop your networks, promote the research that you are passionate about, and be recognized as a leading figure within the health sciences library community.

    Key Skills and Attributes

    Here are the skills and attributes we would be looking for in a successful applicant:

    • Someone who is active in the community, with strong academic and professional networks in medical or hospital libraries;

    • Confidence to engage with medical librarians and researchers to solicit high quality submissions;

    • Strong organizational skills to ensure that submissions are handled in a timely manner;

    • The ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues such as the Section/Column Editors and Editorial Board members;

    • Ideally, applicants will have some editorship experience and will have engaged in evaluation and assessment of work in the field.

          The role will formally begin as soon as handover from the outgoing editor can take place to ensure seamless transition.

            • Where you believe the field is going, and the journal’s place within it;
            • Ideas for differentiating the journal from its direct competitors;

            • How you would work in partnership with the editorial board and section editors/columnists.
