Call For Editors

European Journal of Cultural and Political Sociology

The European Journal of Cultural and Political Sociology is opening a call for one to three new editor(s) and a reviews editor. Their term will be preceded by an approximately six-month training period along with the current editors.

The European Journal of Cultural and Political Sociology is a peer-reviewed journal published by the European Sociological Association and Routledge/Taylor & Francis. The journal is on its fifth volume, has had an auspicious start, and is currently well under way to regularising its position within the field of social science journals; this includes its recent listing in the Scopus abstract and citation database.

The journal aims to be a forum for all academic work exploring relationships between culture and politics through a sociological lens. We are hospitable to interpretations of both ‘culture’ and ‘politics’ that see them as present throughout all forms of social action. Thus we welcome considerations of cultural phenomena in relation to political context, work that situates political phenomena within a cultural framework, and all points between these poles. In this way the journal seeks both to address matters of immediate concern and to extend the breadth and depth of our understanding of social life.

The current editorial team includes two editors, one reviews editor, and a managing editor. The editor(s) to be recruited should have a strong sense of the journal’s mission: to explore the ubiquitous confluence of cultural and political phenomena. An editor needs to be committed to carrying out editorial work in all its variety, able to read texts creatively, and both capable and willing to communicate with authors so as to bring out the best potential in their work. Good teamwork skills and a compassionate attitude towards aspiring authors are a necessity. In addition, an editor should have a genuine and proven commitment to work in this field, with an interest and expertise in the wide range of themes that cultural and political sociology encompasses.

Good copy-editing skills will be a great benefit.

A Reviews Editor needs to have a real interest in sociological and related literature that is relevant to the journal’s mission, as well as to be widely connected in the academic world.

The journal offers all editors, in addition to the incomparable spotlight experience of editing a forward-moving, new and ambitious journal, an expenses budget for promoting the journal in the form of conference attendance, organising seminars, and the like, as well as for organising editorial team meetings and participating in ESA events.

European Journal of Cultural and Political Sociology

The European Journal of Cultural and Political Sociology is a peer-reviewed journal published under the auspices of the European Sociological Association. The study of culture is the fastest growing area in both European and North American sociology. Political sociology is also re-establishing itself as a central plank of the discipline. The European Journal of Cultural and Political Sociology aims to be a forum not so much for these fields of study considered separately, as for any work seeking to explore the relationship between culture and politics through a sociological lens.
