About the Role
Ethics and Social Welfare is recruiting for a new editor to edit the journal for a three-year period.
The journal publishes articles of a critical and reflective nature concerned with the ethical issues surrounding social welfare practice and policy. There are three current editors, with specialisms spanning social work, applied ethics and social policy. We are seeking a fourth editor with expertise in the application of moral, political and social philosophy to issues and themes in social welfare.
The journal has four issues per year and is published by Taylor & Francis. Ethics and Social Welfare has an international board that meets virtually twice a year, and represents regions across the globe. Our newly joining editor may be based anywhere in the world, however given the current composition of the team we will particularly welcome applications from those based in, or with strong networks in, the global South.
This role will offer the successful applicant an opportunity to help shape the future of a journal that has consistently grown since its foundation, highlighting ethical issues in social welfare from an interdisciplinary and increasingly global perspective. It offers space for philosophical reflection and argument, empirical studies of values in social policy and practice, and thoughts about ethics in practice, from academics, welfare professionals, service users and carers. It has a particular focus on social work, social care, youth and community work and related social professions.
Key Skills and Attributes
Here are the skills and attributes we would be looking for in a successful applicant:
Someone who is active in the academic community with strong personal networks;
Confidence to engage with authors and researchers to solicit the highest quality submissions;
Strong organizational skills to ensure that submissions are handled in a timely manner;
The ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues such as editorial board members and guest editors.
Submitting your Application
Applications shall include:
A CV with a list of publications;
The applicant’s statement of interest for the role, including their vision for the journal under their editorship.
Please contact Anna Parkinson, Taylor & Francis Portfolio Manager at [email protected], or the current editors at [email protected] if you would like further information about the role. Please do not send applications to this address.
