Analytics of Big Geosocial Media and Crowdsourcing Data

Big Earth Data Special Issue Call for Papers

Deadline: 15 November 2019

Vast amount of crowdsourcing and social media platforms such as CrowdSpring, Idea Bounty, DesignCrowd, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and Instagram are generating abundant data that can be used to extract timely and useful information for detecting traffic patterns, security and other types of time-critical events as well as predicting human movement. However, the data characteristics present significant challenges due to the uncertain representability when referring to human behavior in general, the inherent noise that requires high cost of preprocessing, and the heterogeneity in quality and quantity of sources; all making it complex to draw conclusions in many cases, not mentioning the ethnic and privacy issues. New sets of methods and tools are therefore required to analyze the data from crowdsourcing and social media platforms. This special issue aims at publishing the state-of-the-art research efforts that address these challenges. Both comprehensive scientific review papers and research articles are welcome.

Potential topics include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Natural language processing techniques
  • Spatiotemporal mining and pattern analysis
  • Machine learning models
  • Event detection methods (e.g. local, traffic and security event detection)
  • Prediction and forecasting of human mobility Geo-location inference
  • Quality of geosocial media and crowdsourcing data
  • Novel applications in public health, transportation, safety, and sustainability
