Understanding climate change with big Earth data

Big Earth Data Special Issue Call for Papers

Deadline: 30 April 2019

Climate related changes have already been observed at various spatial and temporal scales, along with frequent extreme climate events and emerging issues in great complexity. Meanwhile, impacts of climate change are expected to become increasingly severe for more people and places as amount of warming increases. However, great challenges and uncertainty exist in understanding climate change and its complex impacts, largely due to limitation of large scale data availability and compatibility. There is urgent need to bring big Earth data for more integrated investigation and synthesis of complex climate change in context of Earth system. Here in this special issue, we invite original research papers and technical papers that apply big Earth data in understanding climate change.

Potential topics include (but are not limited to) the following: (optional, but recommended)

  • Climate change and variability shown in big Earth data
  • Complex impacts of climate change
  • Climate extremes and disaster risks
  • Climate change in context of Earth system
  • Tele-connection and complexity
  • Earth observation of climate change
  • Coordinated observation of land-climate interactions
  • Climate data assimilation and reanalysis
  • Climate modelling with big Earth data
