Value of sensors in healthcare
In order to understand what is happening in the human body, or to treat conditions, we require sensors. There are multiple ways sensors can operate in healthcare settings and this will, inevitably, affect the way the sensors need to be manufactured and operated to achieve maximum potential and high levels of accuracy.
As healthcare advances and certain activity or health trackers become more popular, the potential challenges and benefits of wearable sensors will also require special consideration. This includes any implementation differences to suit a commercial or home-based market, away from standard healthcare settings. Equally, as novel health challenges continue to present themselves, adaptive and forward-thinking sensors are necessary to continue benefiting human wellness.
Sensors affect multiple stakeholders in healthcare. All those working in healthcare are equally important in keeping patients healthy, therefore the production of accurate, high-quality sensors is crucial to achieving this aim.
This Article Collection will solicit articles related to the following subjects. However, we welcome all submissions related to the umbrella topic of sensors in healthcare:
- Benefits and costs of using wearable and non-wearable sensors (e.g., motion, temperature sensors etc.)
- Strategies to implement health-related sensors in everyday life and in healthcare settings
- Optimum, or novel and emerging, materials and manufacturing techniques to maximise usage
- Fine-tuning the sensing mechanism to ensure high accuracy
- Presence of and possibility of biodegradable or environmentally friendly sensors in healthcare
