Navigating Food Security: Local food production and financial resilience

In middle- and low-income countries, agriculture is characterized by small farms, (< 2 ha) human labor, and family involvement. It is also characterized by a lack of land tenure and poverty.

Unreliable climate, such as drought and flooding, makes harvest yield unpredictable. Yet, farmers press forward using government subsidies, expertise from extension services, off-farm employment, and innovation or a combination of all four, producing a large percentage of the food for the local region.

However, in rural areas, theses farmers  continue to live in poverty where a large majority experience chronic hunger. This collection will focus on the interconnectivity between place and poverty in  local small-scale farms.
