Exploring Recent Advances of Nanomedicine in Modulating Tumor Microenvironments and Tissue Engineering
Nanomedicine is reshaping cancer treatment and regenerative medicine through targeted, precise interventions. Recent breakthroughs focus on modulating the tumor microenvironment (TME)—a complex matrix of cells and signals surrounding tumors that influence their growth and resistance to therapies. At the same time, nanotechnology enhances tissue engineering by enabling the creation of biomimetic scaffolds and delivery systems that foster cell growth and tissue repair. Together, these advancements pave the way for highly personalized therapies with improved efficacy and fewer side effects compared to traditional approaches.
Nanomedicine’s impact on TME modulation and tissue engineering is transformative due to its potential to overcome key therapeutic challenges. Conventional cancer treatments often struggle with non-specific drug targeting and severe side effects, while regenerative therapies require materials that closely replicate native tissue. Nanotechnology addresses these limitations with localized, controlled drug delivery to targeted cells, reducing systemic toxicity. In cancer, nanoparticles can modulate immune responses within the TME, making tumors more receptive to treatment. In tissue engineering, nanoscale materials improve scaffold properties, enhancing cell attachment and promoting tissue formation. These capabilities are critical for developing advanced, minimally invasive therapies tailored to individual patient needs.
This journal collection invites submissions on innovative applications of nanomedicine in TME modulation and tissue engineering. Topics of interest include nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems targeting the TME, immune-modulating nanostructures, nanotechnology-enhanced biomaterials for scaffolding, and nanoscale imaging techniques for monitoring therapy. We welcome original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and perspective pieces that explore both experimental and theoretical advances. Through this collection, the journal aims to highlight the promise of nanotechnology in revolutionizing cancer and regenerative therapies, offering a platform for novel insights and interdisciplinary collaboration in these dynamic fields.
