Electromagnetic Properties of Graphene-based Polymer Nanocomposites and their Applications
Since the discovery of graphene and the study of its exceptional mechanical, thermal, electrical and chemical properties, polymer nanocomposites based on graphene and graphene-related materials have attracted huge attention, from both academia and industry.
There has been a sense of expectation, not yet fulfilled, that a new family of lightweight, multifunctional, nano-enabled, composite materials could be developed, for the benefit of several technological fields.
Just to mention an example, such nanocomposites could tackle electromagnetic pollution, which is becoming an increasingly problematic issue to aerospace, automotive, and portable electronics, due to the proliferation and miniaturization of electronic components. For this specific application, features like high electrical conductivity and broad bandwidth properties, combined with low density and resistance to harsh environments, are particularly desirable. Beyond electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, there are a plethora of potential applications fields that could be revolutionised by graphene-based polymer nanocomposites, including but not limited to energy storage, smart heating, sensing and wireless technology.
This collection aims to attract and disseminate frontier research (as Original Research Articles, Short Communication and Reviews) on graphene-based polymer composites, including the following key themes:
- electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding
- Wireless Technology
- Energy Storage
- Energy Harvesting
- Sensing
- Heating
- Harsh Environments
- Electrical Conductivity and Percolative Phenomena
- Processing-Structure-Properties relationship
- Modelling, Simulation and Design
