Nanocomposites: Advances in Nanofiber Production and their Applications

This Article Collection in Advances in Nanofiber Production and their Applications, aims to collect high quality research and literature overview in the field of nanofibers. Nanofibers are fibers which have a diameter in the nanometer range (below 1µm), however it is desirable to get nanofibers with average diameter of less than 100 nm. Since last few decades nanofibers, which have a diameter in the nanometer range below 1µm, have received much attention from the researchers due to their unique structure and morphology which have a variety of applications, such as for loading a bioactive material on nano-sized fibre will enhance the activity because of higher surface area and uniform spreading of the active material. Similarly, nanoparticles can be embedded on the surface of nanofibers to get desired functionality, in terms of conductivity, catalytic activity, antibacterial activity or any other application

Considering a broad range of applications of nanofibers, there have also been development in fabrication methods. Different approaches have been used in production of nanofibers i.e. electrospinning, melt-spinning, wet spinning, drawing, template synthesis, phase separation, self-assembly, and interfacial polymerization. Among all these techniques, electrospinning is commonly used method due to its simple & cost-effective operation and scaled-up production.

The areas of interest are, but not limited to, technological development, upgradation in existing technology, and functional applications of nanofibers in emerging fields such as sustainable energy and tissue engineering. We welcome submissions in the form of research articles, comprehensive review, communications, if they describe significant advancement in the field of nanofiber production and their applications.
