Development and Properties of Nanocrystalline Aluminium Alloys
Aluminium alloys are widely used in engineering structures and components where light weight or corrosion resistance is required. As industrial applications place higher performance requirements on aluminium alloys, developing nanocrystalline aluminium alloys is an effective way to boost mechanical strengths and other functional properties.
Mechanical properties of nanocrystalline aluminium alloys depend on constituent selections as well as processing/treatment strategies. Through different processing/treatment strategies such as severe plastic deformation, high speed impact, surface attrition, friction stir welding, additive manufacturing and heat treatments etc. we can control the microstructures and improve the corresponding mechanical properties, which include mechanical strength, fatigue resistance, wear resistance, thermal stability, conductivity and corrosion resistance.
Understanding the strengthening mechanism is critical in developing high performance nanocrystalline alloys. It is expected potential papers can include, but are not limited to the following subjects:
- Materials processing
- Materials characterisations
- Grain refinement
- Grain boundary segregation
- Crystallographic texture evolution,
- Dislocation theory
- Precipitation control
- Heterostructured microstructure
- Mechanical properties
- Fatigue
- Corrosion
