HPV Vaccine – A Game Changer in the Fight Against HPV-Associated Cancers

Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics is pleased to announce a new Article Collection dedicated to the transformative role the HPV vaccine has played in the reduction of HPV-associated cancers in young adult populations.

This Collection, reviewed by the Editor-In-Chief Dr. Ronald Ellis, is part of the new Game Changer series of Article Collections, focusing on breakthrough therapies, drugs, and technologies that have significantly altered the standard of care, leading to game-changing improvements in patient outcomes. One such vaccine that has had a profound impact on human health is the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine.

HPV is a sexually transmitted infection that can lead to the development of certain cancers. In fact, HPV infection is the leading cause of oropharyngeal cancer and cervical cancer, with strains HPV 16 and HPV 18 accounting for approximately 70% of cervical cancers globally. When given to males and females prior to becoming sexually active, the HPV vaccine lowers the risk of chronic infection by several HPV strains that are associated with different cancers and genital warts. The 9-valent HPV vaccine protects against infection by 7 cancer-causing strains of HPV and 2 associated with genital warts and is indicated for administration between the ages of 9 and 45.

While this call is open to receive manuscripts highlighting all aspects of the HPV vaccine, the Editors are particularly interested in manuscripts relating to the following areas:

  • HPV strains associated with non-cervical cancers, such as oropharyngeal cancer
  • Global HPV vaccine epidemiology
  • Long-term efficacy and vaccine safety studies
  • Vaccine immunogenicity studies
  • New vaccine formulations and future development
  • HPV Vaccine hesitancy
  • Increasing HPV vaccine awareness and strategies to increase vaccination rates
  • Public policy and HPV vaccination programs
