Bias Reduction in Healthcare Communication: Global Strategies
In collaboration with the Academy for Professionalism in Healthcare, the Journal of Communication in Healthcare: Strategies, Media, and Engagement in Global Health (JCIH), a leading peer-reviewed journal published by Taylor & Francis, is seeking research papers, reviews, and evidence-based case studies as presented at the 2023 Annual Conference of the Academy on the topic of Bias Reduction in Health Care Communications: Global Strategies for a discrete Article Collection to be published in one the Journal’s 2023 or 2024 regular issues. This call for papers is open ONLY to submissions by presenters at the above conference.
Sample topics for this article collection include but are not limited to:
- Evidence-based interventions and strategies to promote bias reduction in healthcare settings
- Advocacy and policy communication strategies in support of bias reduction practices and policies at the organizational, local, national, and global levels
- Innovative approaches in educational settings to prevent and reduce bias in healthcare settings
- The role of patient and community engagement in shaping communication interventions and policies to address the impact of bias in healthcare communication
- Equity-driven interventions and policies to address the impact of bias in healthcare among specific populations that have been historically marginalized or experience other kinds of vulnerability or disadvantage
- The role of social and behavior change communication in promoting bias reduction behaviors and policies in clinical settings
- Awareness of/attitudes toward bias in healthcare across a variety of professional and lay groups
- Analysis of media and resources in support of bias reduction strategies
- Bias in clinical, community, and population settings: The state of affairs and future directions
- Impact of bias on specific health areas across physical and mental health domains and related communication strategies to promote policy, social, and behavioral change
- International, interprofessional, interdisciplinary solutions/interventions
- The role of bias reduction strategies in healthcare settings in addressing bias-driven inequities and advancing health, racial, and social equity.
The Journal publishes innovative research, interventions and perspectives on health communication in all areas of healthcare, public health, global health and medicine, and is seeking submissions from a diverse group of scholars and practitioners in the United States and globally. The collection’s topic was proposed by Academy’s board members Elizabeth K Kachur, PhD, FAMEE, Academy for Professionalism in Health Care and Medical Education Development, Global Consulting, United States; and Thomas Harter, PhD, Academy for Professionalism in Health Care and Gundersen Health System, United States. This call for papers and list of topics were designed in collaboration with the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Renata Schiavo. Drs. Harter and Kachur will work closely with the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief on many aspects of this article collection.
