Globalization: Current trends and challenges

The proposed article collection aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current trends and challenges shaping globalization. It seeks to present new insights into the role of numerous factors that influence the three pillars of globalization: international trade, cross-border investment, and migration. This collection will be based on contributions submitted to the XXV Conference on International Economics organized by the Spanish Association of International Economics and Finance (AEEFI).

Over the last decades, we have witnessed various processes that promote and transform globalization. Examples include the increasing relevance of deep trade agreements, the emergence of Global Value Chains, and the growing adoption of environmental policies. Liberalization policies and new technologies have facilitated the cross-border movement of goods and services, capital, and people. However, since the 2008 global economic crisis, a series of events have
unfolded, increasingly casting uncertainty on the future of the global economy. These events include Brexit, the rise of populist political parties or presidents, the Covid-19 crisis, armed conflicts, and geopolitical tensions. Additionally, the advancement of climate change, coupled with more extreme temperatures, is driving international migration and is likely to have consequences on the geographical distribution of economic activity.

Contributions to these proposals are welcome in the following areas (but not limited to):
• Economic integration
• Environmental policy
• Effect of geopolitical risks and conflicts
• Foreign direct investment
• International finance
• International trade
• International tourism
• Fragmentation and disruption of GVC
• Trade and investment policies
• International migration
• Migration policies
• Climate change
