Fostering Urban and Regional Innovation Dynamics

Understanding the multifaceted realm of regional innovation dynamics is crucial to deliver insights about sources of localized economic growth and competitiveness. Moreover, since regions differ significantly in terms of availability and access to resources, technological and non-technological capabilities as well as institutional settings, it is essential to comprehend their influences in order to eventually adapt the innovation strategies to the respective urban and regional strengths.

The collection will provide a thorough exploration of various aspects of innovation, its determinants, and the role played by institutions, leadership, technology, and sustainability within the regional innovation landscape.

The collection will consist of theoretical or empirical contributions. The articles should offer in-depth analyses, comparative studies, and critical discussions on the following key themes:

  • Drivers of knowledge spillovers within and between regions
  • Barriers to knowledge spillovers within and between regions
  • Innovation in peripheral regions
  • Comparative analysis of regional determinants of innovation
  • Clusters and innovation ecosystems
  • The spatial dynamics of innovation networks
  • Interplay between social, technological, and environmental innovation in regional innovation systems
  • Industry 4.0 in European regions: achievements, current developments, and prospects
  • Digitalization and sustainable development of regions
  • The role of regional leadership in shaping national innovation systems
  • The role of the EU in supporting regional innovation systems

All manuscripts submitted to this Article Collection will undergo a full peer-review; the Guest Advisor for this collection will not be handling the manuscripts (unless they are an Editorial Board member). Please review the journal scope and author submission instructions  prior to submitting a manuscript.
