Economic and financial integration: Between environmental issues and geopolitical risks

Economic and financial integration recording remarkable advancements during the last decades, not only at the EU level. This process was largely shaped by opportunities in terms of environmental collaboration. At the same time, the increased manifestation of geopolitical risks, affecting global value chains and commodity prices slowed down the integration process. On the one hand, institutional capacity should be improved to facilitate the decision-making process. On the other hand, international firms are currently searching for new business models, dealing with green transition, energy crisis and a lot of uncertainty. All these phenomena are amplified by the continuation of the Russia – Ukraine War and by the recent conflicts from Middle East.

In this context, several questions appear and are addressed by this article collection proposal: Does the economic and financial integration process will continue and to what extent? How will the authorities address both environmental and geopolitical risks? Which  strategies will international companies adopt in a high uncertainty context?

Contributions to these proposals are welcome in the following areas (but not limited to):

  • Financial advancements and economic integration
  • Financial flows and geopolitical risks
  • Firms’ green transition
  • Foreign direct investment
  • Fragmentation and disruption of GVC
  • International trade and geopolitical risks
  • Monetary policy and financial markets uncertainty
  • Trade tariffs and energy markets instability
  • Trade and sustainable environment.
