Immunotherapy is now firmly established as a therapeutic modality for the treatment of malignancy. Because of inherent interpatient heterogeneity of the tumor and immune systems, there is increasing interest in personalized and personal immunotherapies. This collection focuses on “personal” anti-cancer immunotherapies, i.e., those that are manufactured using autologous immune cells and/or autologous tumor cells and their antigens. Examples include autologous adoptive cellular therapies such as tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL), natural killer (NK) cells, and lymphocytes modified by chimeric antigen receptor (CAR-T), or T cell receptor (TCR) engineering, as well as autologous dendritic cells (DC) and/or autologous tumor cells, their antigens, or mRNA. The initial emphasis of the Collection has been on expert reviews, but may also include original research and commentaries. The Collection is still open for new submissions. We accept articles investigating:
- Autologous (not allogeneic) cell-based therapies
- The role of various immune cell types in immunotherapy
- Personalized neoantigens for autologous cell treatment
- Preclinical models, trial design and regulatory issues
