GLP-1 Agonists and SGLT2 Inhibitors: Cardiovascular Prevention in the Elderly
We are pleased to announce a new Article Collection in Geriatric Pharmacology, dedicated to the game-changing role of GLP-1 agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors in the management of primary and secondary cardiovascular disease. The intervention trials supporting their use in routine practice have been primarily conducted in young and middle-aged patient cohorts. Therefore, their efficacy and safety in older populations with significant frailty, comorbidity, and polypharmacy burden is largely untested.
Given that advancing age is a significant cardiovascular risk factor, establishing the efficacy and safety of novel treatments in “real-life” older patient populations is critical in order to justify their routine use in these complex and vulnerable groups.
The collection, Edited by the Editor-In-Chief Professor Arduino A Mangoni, is part of the new Game Changer series of Article Collections, focusing on breakthrough therapies, drugs, or technologies that have significantly altered the standard of care, leading to game-changing improvements in patient outcomes.
This collection will consider original research and review articles. The Editors are particularly interested in manuscripts relating to the following areas:
- Knowledge gaps regarding the use of GLP-1 agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors as cardiovascular prevention therapies in old age
- Identification of patient groups likely to respond to these treatments
- Suggestions for future research directions in this area
Both basic science and clinical studies will be considered.
Papers published within the Game Changer series will benefit from additional promotional activities across Taylor and Francis, increasing the discoverability and visibility of your research.
The deadline for submitting manuscripts is 1 April 2026.
If you have any queries regarding the Article Collection or would like to discuss a submission, then please email the Commissioning Editor, Catherine Teng at catherine.teng@taylorandfrancis.com.
