Future Frontiers in Healthcare Risk Management, Policy and Governance in a Transforming Economy
The rapid transformation of healthcare systems globally and in the Middle East, particularly within the ambit of national diversification agendas such as Saudi Vision 2030, has created new frontiers for health policy, risk governance, and institutional resilience. This Article Collection, inspired by interdisciplinary dialogues at the 7th Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Economics and Administration at King Abdulaziz University, provides a platform for empirical and conceptual research on how healthcare organizations navigate technological disruption, regulatory evolution, and systemic risk. It examines the intersection of health system governance, digital innovation, and policy design, offering insights relevant to both emerging and established health systems.
Understanding these transformations is critical given the increasing complexity of economic systems and the interconnectedness between business performance, public policy, and societal outcomes. In particular, these changes have important implications for risk governance, regulatory frameworks, and the resilience of public systems, including healthcare and other critical sectors. As economies undergo structural reforms and digital transformation, new forms of risk emerge across financial, organizational, and policy domains, requiring integrated and evidence-based approaches to management and decision-making. This Collection contributes to the literature by examining how economic, managerial, and policy transformations shape healthcare risk management, patient safety, and system resilience, with particular attention to governance structures, quality improvement, and implementation challenges in diverse healthcare contexts.
The Collection welcomes high-quality original research articles, reviews, and policy-oriented studies aligned with the journal’s scope. Topics include, but are not limited to: health system governance, regulation, and compliance in transforming economies; risk assessment, mitigation, and resilience in healthcare delivery; patient safety, quality improvement, and adverse event management; health policy design, evaluation, and implementation; digital transformation, data governance, and cybersecurity in health systems; health workforce planning and organizational resilience; resource allocation, cost–risk trade-offs, and financial risk management in healthcare; health technology assessment and innovation policy; and the legal, ethical, and economic dimensions of healthcare risk. The Collection particularly encourages interdisciplinary work that links business and management research with healthcare policy outcomes, governance structures, and risk mitigation frameworks. Submissions will undergo the journal’s full independent peer-review process, and only rigorously evaluated contributions will be included. This is an open Collection; submissions are welcome from all researchers, not only conference participants.
