Current Challenges and Future Directions in Gynecologic Cancer: Epidemiology, Prevention and Emerging Therapies

Gynecologic cancers, including malignancies of the uterine cervix, ovary, endometrium, vulva, and vagina, present a significant and growing health burden globally. These cancers are predisposed by a complex interplay of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, with incidence and outcomes varying significantly by geographic region, access to healthcare, and socioeconomic status. Despite advances in early detection, surgical techniques, radiation therapy, and systemic treatments, gynecologic cancers remain a leading cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality in women. As populations age and new risk factors and disease patterns emerge, we urgently need to grow our understanding of gynecologic cancer epidemiology, refine preventive strategies, and develop more effective therapies with fewer comorbidities.

This Article Collection aims to bring together cutting-edge research and expert perspectives to address the current challenges and future directions in gynecologic oncology, with a focus on epidemiology, prevention, and emerging therapies. We hope to promote an integrative approach to gynecologic cancer care that crosses prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship by highlighting the latest advances in basic, translational, and clinical research.

We envision this Collection to aid as a platform for assorted contributions, including global epidemiologic studies, novel preventive and screening strategies, innovative therapeutic approaches such as immunotherapy and targeted therapy, and insights into disparities in gynecologic cancer care. Additionally, this Collection aims to address critical topics such as the impact of genetic and molecular biomarkers on personalized treatment and the potential of multidisciplinary collaborations to enhance patient outcomes and quality of life.
