Climate change and older adults
This Article Collection will strive to highlight the importance of climate change for older people and examine the issue from an intergenerational angle. Society is witnessing the impact of climate change in the form of rising sea levels, droughts, adverse weather, and other disasters. However, public policies are lacking in their response to protect older people in climate change events; they often fail to promote the voice of older people or offer opportunities to participate in moderating the impact of climate change. The Collection will endeavor to bring together this specialist community to present and discuss the impact of climate change on older people and highlight the role that older people could have in moving forward.
This Article Collection will solicit (or consider unsolicited articles) on relevant areas including:
- The impact of climate change on older people
- The rights and potential of older people to contribute to climate change activism and how those rights are protected and promoted
- How older people can participate in climate change activism
- Intergenerational pursuits in climate change
- Government and industry contributions to climate change moderation for and with older persons
- Public policy promoting positive climate change for older people
