Applications of Nanoparticles on Animal and Agriculture Sciences

Nanotechnology has been identified as one of the “Key Enabling Technologies” that play essential role in sustainable development of different fields. In recent years, nanotechnology has been gaining interest in animal and agriculture sciences, resulting from its potential in crop improvement, crop protection, crop productivity improvement, food quality control, soil fertility management, detection of plant and animal diseases, animal growth promotion and antimicrobials. In agriculture, studies indicate nanoparticles are capable of promoting germination and growth of seed, protecting plant from abiotic and biotic stresses, and increasing soil fertility. In animal science, nanoparticles are considered as excellent candidate for veterinary medicine, nutrient delivery, and biocidal agents.

Currently, in animal and agriculture sciences, the application of nanoparticles is still at the initial stage, that its advantage and potentiality are not fully exploited. Deeper studies are needed for this direction to explore impacts of nanoparticle on biological effects, probe into the mechanisms of nanoparticle uptake and mobilization in plants, understand bioaccumulation capability of nanoparticles and its effect on environment-related toxicity, design and synthesis safer nanoparticles. This article collection aims to expand our understanding in the application of nanoparticles in agricultural and animal science.
