Advances in Orthopedic Biomechanics for Precision Diagnosis, Surgical Optimization, Implant Development and Rehabilitation Guidance
Cogent Engineering is pleased to welcome you to submit your research to the Article Collection "Advances in Orthopedic Biomechanics for Precision Diagnosis, Surgical Optimization, Implant Development and Rehabilitation Guidance".
Musculoskeletal disorders (osteoarthritis, disc degeneration, bone fracture, etc) remain a leading cause of disability worldwide. Conventional orthopedic practice faces persistent challenges in achieving truly personalized treatment—particularly regarding precise diagnosis, surgical optimization, implant longevity, and rehabilitation efficacy. Biomechanics, as a key metric, plays an important role in addressing these limitations. The quantitative study of mechanical issues in bone, joint and artificial implant as well as orthopedic surgery, utilizing biomechanical principles and methods, holds vast and profound applicative prospects.
The aim of this Article Collection is to explore the latest advancements in the cross-cutting fields of musculoskeletal biomechanics and orthopedic surgery in the context of bone and joint disorders. These advancements are anticipated to shed light on new pathogenic mechanisms and promote precision diagnosis, surgical optimization, implant development, and rehabilitation guidance. Advanced AI-driven biomechanical frameworks or motion capture techniques applied in the field of orthopedics are also highly encouraged in this Article Collection. These advancements hold great potential in enhancing the outcomes of orthopedic diseases by leveraging the principles of biomechanics and incorporating evidence-based approaches.
In this Article Collection, we welcome researchers to submit Original Research and Systematic Reviews focusing on but not limited to the following topics:
- Biomechanical mechanisms in degenerative diseases of bone and joints.
- Emerging understanding of biomechanical characteristics in orthopedic techniques or implants based on mechanical experiments, finite element analysis and musculoskeletal multibody dynamics simulation.
- Novel surgical strategy and implant design based on biomechanical improvements.
- Development and application of biomechanical techniques in disease diagnosis and evaluation of rehabilitation therapeutic effects.
Meet the Guest Advisors
Prof. Zhongmin Jin is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Southwest Jiaotong University and has held numerous part-time visiting professorships at universities in China and other countries, including Xian Jiaotong University and the University of Leeds. His research interests lie primarily in joint replacement and substitution, tissue re-engineering, and functional spinal interventions. He has co-authored many articles on the biotribology and biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system, with a particular focus on understanding underlying mechanisms and improving functions.
Dr. Zhenxian Chen is a Senior Engineer of Mechanical Engineering at Chang’an University. He is working on the biomechanics and biotribology of the musculoskeletal system, especially in the aspects of biomechanical simulation of natural joints and artificial joints, wear simulation of artificial joints, and digital design of artificial implants based on musculoskeletal multibody dynamics method, finite element method, and gait analysis method.
