Rethink about Globalization in the New Era

In this Article Collection, we aim to re-conceptualize the discussion about globalization within the context of the new global era. The focus of this Article Collection will be on the unfolding dynamics of the fourth industrial revolution, the post-COVID-19 world, and geopolitical tensions which appear to be driving towards new forms of polarization and regionalization.

Our examination is through the lens of the “New Globalization,” as conceived in Vlados and Chatzinikolaou’s 2021 work “Mutations of the emerging new globalization in the post-COVID-19 era: Beyond Rodrik’s trilemma.” Additionally, Baldwin’s exploration of Information Technology’s influence on globalization, “The great convergence: Information technology and the new globalization,” is intended as a guide to our study of the dynamic evolution of globalization across multiple disciplines.

The seismic changes rippling through our globally connected society across macro, meso, and micro socioeconomic levels necessitate a comprehensive understanding of this emerging new phase of globalization. Understanding this new phase of globalization from different perspectives is vital for all socioeconomic actors and researchers, both at a theoretical and practical level. The World Economic Forum’s 2018 white paper, “Agile governance: Reimagining policy-making in the fourth industrial revolution,” accentuates the importance of forging adaptable, sustainable, and inclusive organizations to navigate socioeconomic uncertainties. Furthermore, Chatzinikolaou & Vlados’ 2022 work, “Crisis, innovation and change management: A blind spot for micro-firms?” emphasizes the innovation value in integrating strategy, technology, and management. Exploring these changes is key for future organizational decisions, policy-making, and socioeconomic practices.

This Article Collection aims to explores the intersection of global political economy, entrepreneurship, business, and management. It aims to cover a wide range of topics including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Global socioeconomic restructuration
  • Post-COVID-19 economics
  • Economic development and underdevelopment
  • Energy transition
  • Global innovation dynamics
  • Global governance
  • New regionalization
  • Organizational strategy, technology and management
  • Adaptability and resilience in the new global era

We invite original research and review articles on globalization restructuring and navigation responses in this volatile era, building a solid narrative around the new phase of globalization for this transformative era.
