Clinical Pharmacy Practice and Policy Research in the Middle East and the GCC Region: Evidence, Impact, Implementation and the way forward

Clinical pharmacy practice and policy research in the Middle East and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries is rapidly advancing towards a patient-centered care model. Key priorities include optimizing medication use and enhancing pharmaceutical care services. Health systems in the region are evolving, with technology and artificial intelligence expected to play an increasingly significant role in clinical pharmacy in the near future. As life expectancy rises and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and hypertension become more prevalent, challenges around the availability, accessibility, and affordability of medicines continue to impact clinical practice and patient outcomes.

This article collection seeks to address the broad range of issues shaping access to medicines, their use, and clinical pharmacy practice across the region. We invite research articles, reviews, and commentaries on topics including, but not limited to:

• Evidence and impact of clinical pharmacy practice research
• Evolving health systems and community pharmacy practice
• Access to medicines, medicine pricing, high-cost medicines, biosimilars
• Healthcare workforce
• Expanded roles for pharmacists and specialized care

• Artificial intelligence, technology, and pharmacy practice
• Pharmacogenomics and precision medicine
• Deprescribing
• Methodological approaches in clinical pharmacy practice studies
• Randomized controlled trials in pharmacy practice research
• Medicine shortages

Submissions on other relevant topics within the broader field are also welcome.

All manuscripts submitted to this Article Collection will undergo desk assessment and peer review if they can pass the desk assessments as part of our standard editorial process; the Guest Advisor for this Collection will not be handling the manuscripts (unless they are an Editorial Board member).

The series is currently open for submissions and will run until 31 December 2028.
