Endodontic Materials: Biological and Clinical Aspects
Endodontic materials comprise pulp capping materials used to maintain the vitality of the pulp, irrigants and intracanal medicaments used for disinfection, and materials to obturate the root canal(s). Depending of the diagnosis, the goal for the treatment is pulp preservation, removing inflammation and infection, restoring destroyed periapical tissue and preventing reinfection. The vast number of materials have both biological and clinical implications for the patient.
