Sustainable Development Goal 3: Update on Current and New Drugs for Disease Therapy

In 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which is comprised of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 3 targets good health and well-being, with the goal of improving global health outcomes. There has been notable progress in achieving this goal with several important health strides addressing SDG3. This includes an ever-expanding drug discovery pipeline and background translational research to gather drug toxicology and efficacy data prior to clinical trial initiation.

Though focus has been brought to translational research and the drug discovery pipeline, there are still many challenges that face researchers.  This includes, but is not limited to, increasing cost and decreasing funding, limitations in research models that may not recapitulate human phenotype, and limited mechanistic understanding of how a particular drug may work. Even now, only 10% of drugs in the discovery pipeline make it through clinical trials to approval.

In this Article Collection, All Life addresses SDG3: Good Health and Well-Being through innovative open scientific research addressing genetic diseases or new methods of personalized medicine under the sections “Pharmacology & Pharmaceutics”, and “Translational Physiology”. This Article Collection will accept original research articles, reviews, short communications, data notes, and commentaries on topics including, but not limited to:

  1. Drug discovery pipeline
  2. Drug validation in preclinical models of diseases
  3. Side effects and unexpected effects of drugs
  4. Drugs repositioning for other diseases
  5. Drug pharmacokinetic and metabolization studies
  6. Toxicology reports from pre-clinical and clinical trials
  7. Repurposing orphan drugs
  8. Limitations of the drug discovery pipeline

The deadline for submitting manuscripts is 30 April 2025.
