Abortion

The European Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Health Care is pleased to announce a call for papers for an article collection dedicated to the critical topic of abortion. This collection aims to address the persistent global challenges and disparities in access to safe, comprehensive abortion care and effective contraception, which remain significant contributors to maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide and impacts reproductive autonomy.

Access to contraception and safe abortion services is a fundamental aspect of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Despite advancements, many regions still face significant barriers. Discrimination, stigma, and lack of SRHR knowledge further exacerbate these issues, while ongoing research strives improve the care for those seeking an abortion.

We invite original research articles, reviews, and commentaries on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Innovations in Contraception: Advances in contraceptive methods and their impact on reducing unintended pregnancies and abortion rates as well as postabortion contraception.
  • Abortion up to 12 weeks: The evolution of abortion practices, accessibility, and the shift towards less-medicalized, self managed abortion.
  • Abortion beyond 12 weeks: Current practices, challenges, and the need for evidence-based approaches to second trimester abortion care.
  • Policy and Legal Frameworks: The influence of legal restrictions and policies on abortion access and maternal health outcomes.
  • Healthcare Provider Training: Training in abortion care.
  • Socio-Cultural Factors: The impact of stigma, discrimination, and cultural attitudes on abortion access and SRHR.

We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.
