Meet the Section Editor

Professor Roman Shinder, MD FACS, Professor of Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Director of Oculoplastics, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY

Professor Shinder, MD, FACS, was born in the Ukraine and grew up in New York City, NY, US. A graduate of Cornell University and SUNY Upstate Medical University, he then completed an Ophthalmology residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now Rutgers). This was followed by a 2-year ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Since 2010, Dr. Shinder has been full-time faculty at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and currently is Professor of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and also Director of Oculoplastics at SUNY Downstate and Kings County Hospital Center. He is Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He is an invited charter member of the North American Society of Academic Orbital Surgeons, has published over 200 abstracts and peer-reviewed manuscripts, 13 textbook chapters and is Editor of a textbook currently in production. An Editorial Board member for the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology and invited peer reviewer for several journals. Dr. Shinder has given a number of invited lectures throughout the world.
