Atsushi Sakuraba, MD, PhD, University of Chicago Medicine

Atsushi Sakuraba, MD, PhD is a Gastroenterologist who specializes in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis). He is also interested in gastrointestinal endoscopy, microscopic colitis (lymphocytic colitis and collagenous colitis), colon cancer, fecal transplant for C. difficile infection and undertaking clinical trials for new drug development. Currently Assistant Professor and Director of Clinical Trial/IBD research, Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and the University of Chicago, Dr. Sakuraba's research aims to better understand how and why inflammatory bowel disease develops in order to provide more effective treatment options and improve patient outcomes. He is studying the efficacy and safety of several novel compounds designed to treat inflammatory bowel disease.
