Towards Climate-Resilient Buildings: A Collection of Building Physicists’ Perspectives from Passive Energy Conservation Measures to Performance Assessment
As the climate crisis worsens, building specialists are called upon to design resilient buildings that can meet new and rising challenges. Designing for better durability and energy efficiency helps reduce carbon emissions, particularly when green and sustainable technologies are integrated into the design.
This Special Issue brings together building physicists' perspectives on how passive design strategies and robust performance assessment methods can support climate-resilient buildings. The focus lies on the building envelope and its interaction with the urban environment, from material properties to whole-building and urban-scale effects.
Key topics covered include:
- Passive solutions for improved building hygrothermal performance (e.g., envelope upgrade and passive cooling)
- Nature-based and green solutions for envelope systems and their role in resilience
- Uncertainty in Building performance and numerical simulations, particularly under future climate conditions
- Urban context and microclimate: impact on outdoor and indoor thermal comfort
