Neurotoxicant Exposures and Neuropsychological Outcomes
The focus of this special issue on neurotoxicant exposures at theĀ Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology is to highlight a very important, yet often misunderstood, topic in the field of neuropsychology. This special issue aims to focus on any chemicals or substances that interfere with cognitive functioning and/or compromise the central and/or peripheral nervous systems, either during development or at maturity. Therefore, we are seeking papers focused on neurodevelopmental issues through aging populations. We will consider for acceptance papers that focus on either acute exposures or low-level chronic exposures, including longitudinal studies; research with animal models that include behavioral outcomes; cohort studies with military, agricultural, and other occupational exposures, as well as studies on avocational exposures.
Our goal is to raise awareness of the various ways in which certain environmental exposures found in military, urban or rural settings can impact individual-level neuropsychological outcomes or structural or functional neuroimaging. We aim to improve the understanding of the need for exposure questions in clinical interviews and the use of neuropsychological measures that are commonly used in the field when exposures are likely part of the diagnostic picture. Of special interest is providing a series of articles that inform a constructive dialogue on how different toxicants can impact CNS function whether or not the exposure is current.
For this Special Issue, only original articles will be accepted. While the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology does not issue word limits, the suggested word-count for this issue for standard original articles is 3500 words and 300-word structured abstract. We would like to also solicit brief reports and case studies for this issue, and the suggested word-count is 1500 words and 300-word abstract.
Submission Instructions
Potential authors must email their letters of intent by Friday, September 18th to the Guest Editors, Dr. Maxine Krengel ([email protected]) and Dr. Kimberly Sullivan ([email protected]). Letters of intent should include the proposed manuscript title, list of authors and affiliations, and a brief description of the research aims, methods, results (if yet available) and implications for the field. The Guest Editors will then invite selected potential authors for submission of their full manuscript for review. Full manuscripts will be due by Friday, January 15th, 2027. Potential authors are highly encouraged to contact Dr. Krengel and Dr. Sullivan with any questions or concerns in advance of their submission to the special issue. The Guest Editors aim to be highly engaged in the process and are willing to work with potential authors to ensure their submission is a strong fit for the special issue.
