Strategic Resilience, Entrepreneurial Orientation, and Business Renewal in Uncertain Times

In an era marked by significant challenges, such as geopolitical instability, technological disruption, climate-related shocks, inflationary pressures, and rapid market transformation, firms must renew their strategic approaches, even operating under significant uncertainty. Conventional management models, which were designed for stable environmental conditions, often prove insufficient when firms must respond quickly to a volatile environment. In this context, entrepreneurial orientation, strategic agility, and business renewal emerge as critical capabilities for sustaining competitiveness and long-term performance. This Collection explores how firms (of different sizes and sectors) and institutional contexts develop adaptive responses to uncertainty. These responses may include innovation, proactiveness, risk management, organizational learning, strategic reconfiguration, and others. We welcome studies examining how managers perceive environmental turbulence and how they translate their perceptions into renewal strategies. These strategies may include new business models, digital transformation, partnerships, market repositioning, talent reconfiguration, and international expansion, among others.

In the context described above, special attention should be given to organizations that face resource constraints, which may intensify strategic challenges – such as SMEs, family businesses, service firms, tourism and hospitality organizations, and firms operating in emerging economies. Comparative, cross-country, and sectoral analyses are especially encouraged.

We invite conceptual papers, quantitative and qualitative empirical studies, mixed-method studies, systematic literature reviews, and case studies that advance the knowledge on resilience and renewal in uncertain times. By integrating perspectives on entrepreneurship and strategic management, this issue aims to generate actionable insights for scholars, managers, and policymakers. We welcome papers on topics such as, but not limited to:

  • Entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance
  • Strategic agility in uncertain markets
  • Business renewal and transformation strategies
  • Organizational resilience and crisis adaptation
  • Managerial decision-making under uncertainty
  • Innovation and competitive advantage
  • Digital transformation and AI adoption
  • SMEs and family business adaptation
  • Internationalization in volatile environments
  • Tourism and hospitality competitiveness
  • Sustainability and long-term growth
  • Dynamic capabilities and strategic change
  • Emerging markets and entrepreneurial ecosystems
  • Human capital and leadership in disruption
  • Cross-country comparative business studies
