Symposium: The new politics of security and defence in Europe: national and EU perspectives
The Russian invasion of Ukraine; the rapid reorientation of national security and defence policies in many European countries; EU initiatives aimed at boosting European defence readiness, such as the ReArm Europe plan; or the heightened tensions in NATO caused by the Iran War all point to fundamental shifts in the politics of security and defence in Europe, at both national and EU levels.
West European Politics invites proposals for research papers that analyse the new politics of security and defence in Europe that help to explain the shifts in policy. The Symposium welcomes papers that examine, inter alia, the roles of public opinion, political parties, national parliaments and governments, EU institutions or defence industry interests.
