Attitudes as the Starting Point: A Festschrift Honoring Russell Fazio

We are excited to announce a partnership with The Journal of Social Psychology to create a special issue honoring Russ Fazio’s research by having his students/mentees (and perhaps others) discuss their lines of research built from the foundation of Russ’s original work. This festschrift may also provide a broad entry point for readers into the diverse aspects of research on attitudes and social cognition ─ articles that could be the backbone of a graduate seminar on attitudes research or supplement an undergraduate course on attitudes/social cognition.

Your manuscript should cover three essential elements.

1) How does your research build from Russ’s original research; that is, trace the lineage of your work to his work.

2) A review of the research you’ve conducted – tell readers about your awesome contributions.

3) Where do you see your area of research going? What are some questions building from your work the field needs to consider moving forward?

In lieu of including a section in your manuscript regarding key lessons you learned from Russ that you think would be good for burgeoning scholars to know, your cover letter may include such notes and we may include an afterword in the special issue that summarizes these.

The first author on the manuscript should be the author invited to contribute to the special issue. You should feel free to add any co-authors you would like.

Submission Instructions

Expected wordcount range of first drafts will be 2,000 - 2,500 words, with a preference for being succinct and focused; revised manuscripts may be somewhat longer (up to 3000 words). The word limit is for the main text only and does not include the title page, abstract, tables, figures, figure captions, references, or recommended readings.

The manuscript should be written for a broad audience - the purpose being to present the latest research not only to psychologists but also to those who are not necessarily experts in the area of your research, and who may not be familiar with terms and methodologies used in your field.

You will be asked to include three recommended readings (these should also be in the references). These should be key readings that would help a reader best enhance their understanding of your work ─  articles publishing your studies. For each article, please include a brief description, in a sentence fragment, that explains the reference’s relevance (e.g., “A comprehensive, highly accessible overview of what is known about TOPIC X,” or “Original article establishing CONCEPT X”).

Submission Steps

1) May 15 – An email to the editors indicating you are interested in publishing in the special issue.

2) June 15 – A 1-2 paragraph synopsis describing the basics of your paper. Include a tentative title and authors. We will provide general feedback designed to make sure your manuscript will fit in the overall special issue well.

3) October 30 – Submission of your paper.

5) December 31 – Feedback returned to authors.

6) January 30 – Submission of revised paper.

Paper Feedback

One or more of the editors, plus two reviewers, will provide feedback on your manuscript. Our goal is to help sharpen your points, address any areas that may be unclear or underdeveloped, and ensure coherence across the special issue.
