How’s it going? Evaluating the implementation and embedding of Trauma Informed Practice In Education
The theme of trauma informed practice is both timely and important to educators; it has universal relevance and offers significant opportunities for interdisciplinarity and practice.
The timeliness of a special issue focusing on Trauma Informed Practice in Education is very important, reflecting an increasing awareness of mental health, wellbeing, and social justice. Trauma-informed approaches offer a foundation for ethical, compassionate, and inclusive professional practice. Many staff are familiar with the term ‘trauma informed’, and may have received training on what it encompasses, but to what extent, and in what ways is this approach is becoming more embedded across educational contexts? The adoption of trauma informed practice is vital for responsive practitioners enabling them to meet people where they are, with empathy and insight. In this special issue, we take the opportunity to reflect on how schools and educational settings respond. Whilst practitioners may have the knowledge, how are trauma informed approaches embedded into practice? How are they implemented across an institution or organisation, are they embedded in the curriculum, if so in what ways and to what extent? We reflect on the challenges but also how these approaches become a way of being.
