Interdisciplinary insights into Precision Fermentation
Precision fermentation is a rapidly evolving field drawing expertise from across synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, chemical engineering, control and process engineering and beyond.
Recent advances in the technologies underpinning precision fermentation is transforming how we produce commodity chemicals, high value complex chemicals and proteins with applications across the food, pharmaceuticals and materials. The successful deployment of these technology depends on the seamless integration of diverse scientific and engineering disciplines.
We seek to help the diverse researchers working across these disciplines by publishing articles from disciplinary experts to encourage discussion of each fields contribution, and how these fields interface, with modern precision fermentation. Whether you work on pathway optimization, bioreactor design, process control, strain engineering, computational modelling, your insights can help illuminate the collaborative nature of this field and help shape the conversation around one of the most exciting frontiers in biotechnology.
We are aiming to produce a collection of “insight”-style articles, as well as research papers. “Insights” are no more than 6,000 words and aim to help both new and established researchers “get up to speed” with a particular area by reviewing recent work (often from within the last 5 years) and proposing integration across disciplines and future research future directions.
