Cross-Cutting Capabilities for Fusion and Fission Science, Technology, and Engineering

We are pleased to announce that the American Nuclear Society’s three journals are organizing a special issue showcasing cutting-edge research and advancements on Cross-Cutting Capabilities for Fusion and Fission Science, Technology, and Engineering. We expect this effort to result in a highly impactful collection of research to benefit the wider research community.

This special issue aims to explore the intersection of fusion and fission science, technology, and engineering through materials science, advanced modeling and simulation, testing facilities, technology deployment, and other venues. By highlighting innovative capabilities and expanding their cross-cutting impact, this issue seeks to accelerate fission and fusion deployment. This special issue welcomes contributions focusing on the development of novel methodologies, cross-disciplinary approaches, multi-purpose facilities, and collaborative efforts that enhance or have the potential to enhance both fusion and fission fields. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, innovative modeling and simulation techniques, materials science discoveries, technology deployment, and the utilization and deployment of experimental testing facilities for fusion and fission applications. The goal is to provide a special issue for innovative research and engineering that exemplifies the potential of synergistic advancements in nuclear energy.

If interested, please contact the special issue lead guest editor, PC. Simon, at [email protected].

Owing to the cross-cutting nature of this special issue, we expect submissions into all three of ANS’s technical journals. Please feel free to choose the journal you feel best suits your work; however, the editors will assess and may contact you about transferring your paper to one of the other journals. Brief scopes are listed here:

  • Fusion Science and Technology publishes papers on the peaceful uses of fusion research.
  • Nuclear Science and Engineering publishes papers on fundamental research related to nuclear energy.
  • Nuclear Technology publishes papers on the practical application of nuclear science for peaceful uses

Submission Instructions

  • Your paper will go through the standard journal peer review process.
  • Standard publication in ANS journals is free of charge. Open-access publication is available for a fee.
  • There is no restriction on length. Please follow submission guidelines at the journal’s website for Fusion Science and Technology, Nuclear Science and Engineering, and Nuclear Technology.
  • Accepted papers are published online ahead of print, immediately following copyediting and typesetting—usually within 5 weeks. The published papers will be compiled into a special issue later.
  • Visit the Submission Portal page for your journal of choice: FST | NSE | NT
  • During submission, you will be asked if your submission is for a special issue. Please select the appropriate option from the list: Cross-cutting fusion-fission capabilities special issue
  • Having trouble? Email [email protected] with any questions (regardless of journal).
