Clinical Toxicology is currently recruiting for an Editor-in-Chief. This role is a great opportunity for a clinical/medical toxicologist with a strong research background, who also has the commitment, drive and ability to help develop the journal. As part of this role, you would be responsible for leading an editorial team to administer a rigorous and prompt peer review process that delivers an agreed amount of content of suitable scope and quality within an agreed publication timeframe.

About the Journal

Clinical Toxicology is a subscription-based journal that publishes peer-reviewed scientific research and clinical advances in clinical toxicology. The journal reflects the professional concerns and best scientific judgment of its sponsors, the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology, the European Association of Poisons Centres and Clinical ToxicologistsAmerica's Poison Centres and the  Asia Pacific Association of Medical Toxicology and, as such, is the leading international journal in the specialty.

Clinical Toxicology aims to be the journal of primary interest to practicing clinical toxicologists, whether in hospitals, poison centres, academia, government or industry. The journal is relevant to all professionals at the interface of clinical toxicology with acute care, occupational and environmental medicine, public health, regulatory toxicology, pharmacology and pharmaceutics, and analytical and forensic pathology.

Key Skills and Attributes

Here are the skills and attributes we are looking for in a successful applicant for the Editor-in-Chief position:

  • Experience in academic publishing and familiarity of all stages of the process.
  • A proven track record as a key opinion leader and known figure within clinical/medical toxicology.
  • The capacity to devote time to the role and attend training sessions as needed.
  • The ability to ensure that all submitted manuscripts are considered in a prompt, consistent and professional manner.
  • The ability to confidently use the Scholar One online peer review management system (training can also be provided) and ensure members of the editorial team do the same.
  • The ability to read, summarize, and make decisions based on independent reviewer reports.
  • The ability to work with authors to assure fluency of English and compliance with the style and format of the Journal before final acceptance.
  • A commitment to communicating promptly, consistently, and professionally with authors during the peer review process.
  • A commitment to engaging promptly and efficiently with Taylor & Francis staff and suppliers to implement necessary processes and improvements.
  • A strong commitment to ethical rigour, as well as knowledge of the COPE guidelines, and commitment to ensure that the journal adheres to strict ethical standards at all times.
  • A willingness to proactively lead the journal’s Editorial Board, including helping to arrange and lead Editorial Board meetings.
  • Active involvement in the field, including a comprehensive professional network and conference/event attendance.
  • A vision and enthusiasm for the continuous development of the journal.
The successful candidates will receive an annual contracted Editor Expense payment and the role will formally begin from 1st January 2026.

  • What future directions do you anticipate in the field of clinical toxicology moving in? And what is the journal’s place within this evolving field?
  • How would you work in partnership with the journal’s Associate Editors, Reviews Editor, Editorial Board, and the four sponsoring Associations?
  • How would you maintain and increase the quality of submissions to the journal?
