The Beer Brewing Industry in the 21st Century: Trends, Opportunities, and Challenges
Aims and Scope
This special issue seeks to explore trends, opportunities and challenges in the beer brewing industry worldwide. We invite submissions addressing on the following questions and themes, amongst others:
- What is the impact of the beer brewing industry in terms of employment and investments across markets and countries?
- How do brewers and consumers in different regions identify themeselves with beer types and brands?
- What is the relationship between beer brewing and economic development at regional and national level?
- How important are micro and craft breweries to the local communities in which they operate?
- How significant is the role of beer brewing across local, national, and transational supply chains?
- What are the main themes and issues surrounding international regulations towards the beer and brewing industry, including taxation and drink awareness campaigns?
- As beer brewing is an resource-intensive process, what is its impact on the environment, and how it can achieve sustainability?
- How beer defines and influence strategies and trajectories in other, related, industries, e.g., tourism and hospitality & food and drink sectors.
- How does beer consumption affect cultures and societies worldwide?
We are keen to receive submissions that cross and transcend disciplinary boundaries and address concerns around the beer brewing industry and related markets, its wider supply chains worldwide, and related issues in terms of regional economic development and local communities.

Authors should indicate that they wish the manuscript to be reviewed for inclusion in the special collection.
The Editors of this issue would be happy to review plans for papers in advance of their receipt. All papers will be peer reviewed.
The closing date for submitting papers is December 1st, 2025, with the aim of publication of papers in 2026.
