Radioligand Therapy for Cancer
Cancer Biology & Therapy is pleased to announce an upcoming Article Collection dedicated to the emerging field of radioligand therapy (RLT) for cancer.
RLT is an innovative cancer treatment that combines a targeting molecule – the ligand – with a radioisotope to deliver precise doses of radiation directly to cancer cells, aiming to destroy cancer cells or cells in the tumor microenvironment while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
This therapeutic approach has the potential to improve outcomes for patients with difficult-to-treat cancers. By combining the specificity of targeted therapy with the efficacy of radiation, RLT offers a new avenue for personalized cancer treatment.
However, widespread use of and access to RLT is hindered by the complex logistics of producing and delivering these therapies, including the need for specialized hospital facilities, a workforce trained in nuclear medicine, and the radioactivity and short shelf life of radioligands.
We welcome papers that highlight the latest advancements in RLT, including basic science, translational research, and clinical applications.
