Student Research in Person-Centered & Experiential Psychotherapies

Recognizing the importance of fostering emerging research in our field, PCEP is launching a special issue focused on the research of students. We encourage students or recent graduates that have undertaken a research project as part of their practitioner qualification or time as a student , such as through dissertations or theses, to submit a manuscript. The manuscript will undergo peer review to receive feedback that will enable the author to further develop their submission for potential acceptance in the special issue.

  • We would suggest that any potential authors approach their academic supervisors as co-authors or helpers mentioned in the acknowledgements section.
  • We also encourage academics who supervise research to encourage submissions from the student research you supervised.
  • All authors are asked to additionally review a paper of a peer. This will offer students the invaluable opportunity of being involved in the referee process and will help to build a community amongst our emerging researchers. It also ensures that researchers are truly being reviewed by their peers as well as other experts
  • We welcome submissions from all students interested in exploring the PCEP approach. We especially encourage contributions from emerging scholars from the Global South, indigenous communities, and other areas currently under-represented within our community, including those who are racially minoritized, LGBTQIA+, disabled, religious, etc.
  • Students wanting to present a write up of any research that has been based on contact with participants must include their ethical approval from their institution in order for that to be considered for publication

Submission Instructions

Word limits may vary based on type of paper, but all should be less than 7,000 words. For example, a brief feature might be 1000 words while a systematic literature review might be 6,500 words.

Different types of submissions are possible, all of which need to not be published or submitted for publication elsewhere:

  • Empirical research manuscripts
  • Academic posters, modified as needed for the venue
  • Brief features detailing ongoing research, systematic explanation of novel practice, or unproduced podcast or video essays
  • Interviews, Dialogues, or Open Letters
  • Literature Reviews, including systematic reviews
  • Other creative submissions (directly consult the special edition editors)

Please check the author submission information folder for help on creating your submission. If you have queries after reviewing this information, please send queries to melanie.whitter@abdn.ac.uk or lpotter4@uclan.ac.uk

If you are interested in having your abstract reviewed before submitting your paper, please email it to melanie.whitter@abdn.ac.uk and lpotter4@uclan.ac.uk
