About the Special Issue: This special issue will consider the ways LGBTQ+ families have been impacted by the 2024 Presidential election and related campaigns in the U.S, as well as the impact of a second Trump administration on LGBTQ+ families. We welcome disciplinary and interdisciplinary submissions. Empirical studies and critical analyses with special emphasis on work that draws conclusions to inform practice, policy, and directions for future research are encouraged.
The focus of submitted papers may include, but is not limited to:
- Responses of LGBTQ+ individuals, couples and families to 2024 U.S. election campaign and results
- Analyses of campaign rhetoric related to LGBTQ+ individuals, couples and families in the election
- Minority stress among LGBTQ+ families during the campaigns and/or post-election
- LGBTQ+ family communication related to the campaigns and election
- Analysis of policy changes impacting LGBTQ+ families post-election
- Social action and advocacy for LGBTQ+ families during the campaigns and/or post-election
- Family support and therapy for LGBTQ+ families during the campaigns and/or post-election
- Intersectional approaches to understanding LGBTQ+ family during the campaigns and/or post-election
- Studies that draw on experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families during the first Trump administration to inform understanding of the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people during the second Trump administration
Submission Instructions
For consideration, please submit via email an abstract detailing the intended submission to M. Paz Galupo paz@wustl.edu or Pamela Lannutti pjlannutti@widener.edu by September 1, 2025. Invitations for full manuscript submission will be sent out in Fall 2025. If a full article is invited after abstract review, full articles will be due January 20, 2026. Full articles will be submitted to a full peer-review process which will determine final acceptance for the special issue.
Instructions for abstracts: Abstracts should not exceed 500 words, and should address the following:
-What is the subject matter of your proposed manuscript
-In what ways is the project appropriate for the special issue
-Where applicable, methodological details including sample and methods (only completed data collections will be considered for review)
-Specific implications of the work (2 of 3 needed: clinical, research, policy)
