Feminist Stance on Birth, Infertility, and Reproductive Rights
In 1973 in the United States, the Supreme Court approved the right to an abortion with Roe v. Wade, 410 US 113. In 2022, the Supreme Court overturned this right at the federal level. To date, 14 states have followed suit while others have increased restrictions to access. Months later, France’s Parliament voted to guarantee the right to abortion upholding the 1975 decision to legalize it. This political regulation around reproductive rights including infertility, is very divisive and is impacting the clients that we serve.
The Journal of Feminist Family Therapy is putting out a special call for submissions about reproductive rights including abortion, birth control, infertility, birthing experiences, etc. This includes birth experiences during COVID, miscarriages, still birth, illnesses that impact reproductive capacities such as endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). We also invite articles about reproductive experiences for the LGBTQ+ communities as well as concerns of access and care across racial and cultural identities.
Submission Instructions
We invite both empirical and non-empirical submissions including literature reviews, clinical application, and case studies/clinical case reviews as well as first person submissions or interviews for our Feminist Voices section. We also will consider movie, book, and other media reviews.
Please submit your articles to the journal through the submission link and follow the guidelines on the instructions for authors, making sure to choose then reproductive rights special issue from the drop down menu. Deadline for submissions is 1 October 2025.
