Adsorption: Fundamentals and Processing

Adsorption is a cornerstone of chemical engineering, underpinning numerous applications across environmental management, industrial separations, and resource recovery. As a surface-based phenomenon, adsorption involves the accumulation of atoms, ions, or molecules from a fluid onto a solid surface, making it a versatile tool in both gaseous and liquid phases. This Article Collection aims to delve into the fundamentals of adsorption processes, exploring the underlying thermodynamics, kinetics, and surface interactions that govern adsorption behavior. Furthermore, it seeks to highlight advancements in adsorption materials and the design of efficient processing systems, emphasizing both theoretical developments and practical applications.

Understanding and optimizing adsorption processes is crucial for addressing contemporary challenges in environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and industrial productivity. With growing global concerns over pollution control, resource scarcity, and the need for greener technologies, adsorption offers a promising pathway to achieve more sustainable processes. By enhancing the efficiency and selectivity of adsorption systems, we can significantly reduce the environmental impact of industrial activities, improve the purification and recovery of valuable resources, and advance the development of next-generation materials. This Collection seeks to gather pioneering research that contributes to the global effort to create more sustainable and efficient chemical processes.

This Article Collection welcomes submissions that explore a wide range of topics within the scope of adsorption and ion exchange, including but not limited to:

  • Fundamental Studies: Adsorption isotherms, kinetics, thermodynamics, and surface chemistry.
  • Material Development: Innovations in adsorbent materials such as activated carbons, zeolites, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), and nanomaterials.
  • Process Engineering: Design and optimization of adsorption systems, including fixed-bed, fluidized-bed, and novel adsorption processes.
  • Environmental and Industrial Applications: Case studies and research focused on the use of adsorption in pollution control, water and air purification, and resource recovery.

We invite authors to submit original Research Papers, review papers, and Short Communications. Contributions should align with the journal’s commitment to advancing chemical engineering practices and providing insights that support industrial and environmental progress.
